Since Fight Night Champion in 2010, we have not gotten a real simulation boxing game that aims to be realistic with real licensed fighters. EA has seemingly forsaken the Fight Night games, and haven’t really teased or planned any new ones in the future. Sure, games like Creed: Rise to Glory and Big Rumble Boxing have been released, they aren’t realistic and have no real boxers like Muhammad Ali or Mike Tyson, but seemingly when all hope for a new simulation boxing game had gone, rising from the Fight Night ashes is Undisputed, a new boxing game that aims for realism and fluid game play. Being developed by Steel City Interactive and published by Deep Silver, the game will be fully released on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC on October 11th of this year, and if you pre-order the game you can access the full game 3 days earlier.
Now, here is a breakdown of what Undisputed will offer, and hopefully you can decide if the game will be for you or not.
Game Play
The game play right now in the early access is decent from what I’ve seen and heard of, but some of the animations are a little choppy. Remember that when the full release of the game is out, new punch animations and game modes will be in the game. Now when it comes to actual boxing, it is very similar to Fight Night, without the Total Punch Control. How the game feels, I cannot attest to since I haven’t actually played the game yet, but from what I’ve seen online the game seems to operate fine.
If you wanna get an idea of what the final version of the game will look like on console then watch HipHopGamer play Undisputed on the Xbox Series X/S. If you don’t want to sit and watch a bunch of other extra stuff that isn’t game play, then you’ll probably want to skim through it. If you don’t want to watch it, but want to know what happens and how it looks, I’ll give you a quick run down.
One person was playing Muhammad Ali, and the other Larry Holmes, and while we’re talking about those two boxers I might add the boxer models look phenomenal and the graphics look very good. Back on subject now, the walk outs were missing the fighter robes, which hopefully will be added to the game later, and in the ring there was no referee, which hopefully will be another thing that will be added.
The commentary seemed good, and the boxing itself looked crisp. Both the Ali and Holmes players got knocked down in the video, and the knock down animations are a big step up from the old rag-doll knock downs we used to have in my opinion. Both players were using foot work, using slips to counter, and both got up. Speaking of getting up from knock downs, the mini game to get up is where you must use R2/RT and L2/LT to center a small white bar in a constantly moving red box for a certain period of time until the boxer gets up.
Now, just because I have positive things to say, doesn’t mean I don’t have negative things to say. Some of the animations still look a little clunky, and sometimes when one boxer’s glove gets stuck behind the other boxers glove when they block, the glove can get caught a little bit and it doesn’t look very good or natural as the arm seems to snap backwards and look like the boxers arm breaks, but this isn’t just an Undisputed problem as Fight Night and some UFC games had this too, it isn’t an intentional thing, I believe it’s something to do with the animations themselves. Other than some other small things, the game looks good.
Roster
- UPDATE: As of October 2nd of 2024, Ryan Garcia has been removed from the game, following the lead of the WBC after Garcia was expelled from the WBC.
The roster is one thing that I think is one of Undisputed strong suits. In my own opinion, the roster matches that of any Fight Night game.
