What I’m basically saying is which chocolate candy is would you choose: Kit-Kats, a candy with wafers in a chocolate shell, or M&M’s, small mini bite-sized candy with a chocolaty center in a candy shell?
In fact, Kit-kat’s fame is up to 99%, whilst M&M’s is at 96%.
It may be true that Kit-Kats are healthier and have more protein than M&Ms, but they aren’t as sweet and mini as them. M&M’s have two grams while Kit-Kats have three grams. Kit-Kats also have seven less grams of sugar than M&M’s. Sugar makes people gain weight, so they don’t want too much of it. Not to mention, Kit-Kats are covered in a chocolate shell with crispy wafers on the inside. M&M’s may not have wafers on the inside, but they have a chocolaty center inside their candy shells.
The Kit Kat website is visited more by males and people with graduate school education. Almost 30 % of the people who visit the website are from India, the other 15% are from the USA. Kit Kat is using 5 channels: Facebook, twitter, Tumblr, Pinterest, and YouTube. In Facebook they have 25 million likes, in twitter 167 000 followers, 6792 tweets. In YouTube they have 13000 subscribers. In Pinterest 987 followers, 896 pins. The company posts and tweets quite regularly, their posts are well written, they are not too long. I think they reach their target market well because people are sharing and retweeting the posts, commenting.
M&M’s is focused on the unique recipe for their chocolate. Having the right level of sweetness encourages snacking. The more successful the recipe is, the more consumers will eat. Using celebrity endorsers is something that has helped them over the years with advertising. The Spoke candies have also played a huge role in advertising and have helped expand the business for them. The Spokes candies appeal to the sentimental history of the candy. M&M’s is not only colorful candies but also the life style.
Personally, I can’t pick which is best, because they are both equally good, M&M’s are small bite sized candy shells with a chocolaty center, and Kit Kat’s are chocolate shells with 4 layers of wafers. So obviously, I pick both to be the best chocolate candies.
