When it comes to heroes, there is no place like, “Marvel Studio”. They have many iconic heroes that molded how we see heroes today. Some of the greats include Captain America, Iron Man, Thor, Hulk, and the most important of them all, Ant-Man. Ant-Man may be overlooked from time to time but he was very important to the development of how Marvel is now. But to see where he really shines was his first movie.
The Summary
The movie begins in 1989, where we see the inventor of the “Pym Particles”, “Hank Pym”. Hank is arguing with higher ups about how his Pym Particles were stolen and cut off his ties with the defense agency, “S.H.I.E.L.D.”. A jump to the present where Hank has his own company, is retired, and leaves his company at the hands of his protege, Darren Cross and his daughter, Hope. But Darren slowly takes over the company, rebranding it, and selling the Pym Particles as weapons of war and does care who buys. We cut to our main hero, “Scott Lang” who is getting into a fight with someone in prison. They traded blows but it was just an exit interview with his friends in prison. Scott is picked up by his friend Louise and begins his new job at Baskin Robbins. Scott is called by his manager and is fired for his crime in heists. He drops in on his daughter’s birthday, Cassie and talks to his ex-wife. Unfortunately, because of Scott not having a job and having to pay child support, he has to resort back to his old ways. Scott’s old crew helps Scott find a heist and steal from an old man’s vault. Scott uses his computer hacking skills and quick thinking to get inside the vault and find a strange biker suit. Scott flees the scene, finds the strange tech in the suit, puts it on and presses the button on the suit. Scott shrinks to the size of an ant. After getting into small problems, Scott tries to return the suit back to the house but gets caught by the police. Scott is surprised to see Hank act as Scott’s lawyer, because Hank was the owner of the suit and the one that saw Scott steal his suit to see if he was up for the job. As Scott hangs in his cell, ants bring in the suit to allow Scott to escape and wake up in Hank’s house. Scott awoke to see Hope watching over him as he slept. Hank explains to Scott that he needs his skills to steal the “Yellow Jacket” suit and its data to stop it from being used to topple the world. To train Scott he learns all he uses and types of ants to help him with his mission, Learns how to use the shrinking tech properly, and learns how to fight properly when he has the size and force of a bullet. Hope learns the truth about how her mother died on a mission and goes subatomic to disable a bomb from the inside. But to make sure the mission works Scott has to steal Pym Particles from a Stark Warehouse but was uninformed that it became a new the Avengers’ base. The Falcon finds Scott and tries to capture him but Scott gets inside his wings, disabling them, while stealing the Particles in the process. As Hank lets his guard down, Darren appears in Hank’s house, telling him that he perfected the shrinking of organic life and wants Hank to be there at the demo for the buyers and he also increased security. Scott knowing he doesn’t have much time to do this, he gives a goodnight kiss to his daughter and begins the heist.
With extra help, Scott makes it inside, destroys the data and sets bombs to the mainframe. In a twist, Scott gets trapped and Darren is about to sell his tech to H.Y.D.R.A. but Scott escapes and destroys the tech. Darren, as a last resort, puts on the yellow jacket suit and fights Scott throughout the area. As they get separated, Darren finds Cassie but Scott gets there in time and fights Darren in Cassie’s playroom. Scott can’t defeat the Yellow jacket and has to save Cassie from being attacked by Darren. Scott as a last resort goes subatomic and destroys Darren’s suit from the inside and causes it to shrink Darren down Sub-atomically. Scott gets stuck in the Subatomic space but with luck, Scott uses the Pym Particles to grow back to normal size. Scott hugs his daughter and returns back to Hank and tells him everything he saw in the Subatomic space. But Scott slows down, spends time with his daughter, and finds love in Hope. As Scott talks to Louise and is told that the Falcon is looking for someone for a team for a civil war.
My opinion
Honestly this movie was pretty good but there were some moments that needed some work, but overall it was entertaining. I love the use of real life science with fiction to give hope that stuff like this could be real. The movie had a lot of funny moments but also had some serious scenes that are relatable to many people. Overall, I give this movie an 8.5/10.
