Mystery, something that drives a person to insane things. The thrill of finding out who, what, where, when, or why. However what if there was something that couldn’t be explained. A creature that doesn’t look normal in the slightest. Or a location that is a magnet to things that can’t be explained. A place that has the strangest creatures, spirits, and beings imaginable. Some are common creatures from myth and fairy tales. Some of the others are beings that if you see them, you are already done. This place is called Gravity Falls and one thing is known for sure, they love Halloween in the summer.
Summary
The episode begins with our main characters, Dipper and Mabel being driven by their Grunkle Stan and Soos to the Summer-ween store. Dipper is told by Grunkle Stan that the people of Gravity Falls love Halloween so much that they celebrate it twice. As they explore around the store, they collect what they want and have fun in the store. Dipper and Mabel ride in a wheelbarrow and Soos plays with the talking skulls. They cause a disturbance and have to leave the store, but Grunkle Stan throws a smoke bomb and everyone leaves the store with the things they wanted. destroying a telephone pole as they leave. They head home, Dipper and Mabel plan for the night as they are great at getting candy because they’re twins. Soos warns them to be careful because the Summer-ween Trickster is out tonight. Who eats children that don’t have the Summer-ween spirit. Dipper isn’t worried and tosses some of the “loser candy” into the trash. The doorbell rings, Dipper opens it to see Wendy with her boyfriend Robbie to come get her jacket. Robbie makes fun of Dipper asking if he is going trick or treating because of the bowl of candy he’s holding. Dipper says that he is not and Wendy invites him to a party at 9:00. Mabel invites her friends and shows off their costumes but when Mabel asks Dipper to show his costume, he doesn’t have it on. He says he can’t go because he feels really sick. Just then they hear a knock on the door and Dipper opens the door to see the Summer-ween Trickster say trick or treat. Dipper, unaware of who he is, closes the door in his face, which angers the Trickster and says that they will pay with their lives. In order to survive they must collect 500 pieces of candy before the Summer-ween lanterns are all blown out.
Mabel, Dipper, Mabel’s friends, and Soos all head out to collect candy while Grunkle Stan prepares to scare some kids. Some kids knock on the door and get scared from Grunkle Stan but two kids are not, so Stan makes it his mission to scare those two kids. As Dipper, Mabel and the others make it to their first house, they only get one piece of candy. The Trickster leaps towards them and gets very disappointed with what they have and tells them to hurry up. As their only hope, Mabel tells Dipper that he needs to put on his costume. At the same time the two kids yell at Grunkle Stan that they want candy, which Grunkle Stan tries to scare them again and it doesn’t work. Grunkle Stan asks what scares these kids and they show him a jump scare video which scares him but also makes him question what happened to him. Later on Dipper puts on his costume and in a flash, they begin to gain tons of candy. Within a short amount of time they get about 500 pieces of candy. Dipper pushes the wheelbarrow full of candy until he sees Wendy and Robbie driving near him. Dipper quickly pushes the wheelbarrow to the side and takes off his costume. They stop at Dipper and ask him if he is going to the party later and he says he is going. They leave and Dipper sees that Mabel heard the whole conversation and gets upset that Dipper lied to her just to go to a party. Mabel then asks where the candy is which Dipper says he put it in a bush. It turned out that the bush was right off a cliff and into a sewer. They soon realize that all lanterns are out and that they are out of time.
They huddle together in the sudden darkness as the Trickster walks near them. He demands his candy and begins to grow taller and grow two arms on his back. They run but they’re not fast enough and get snatched. Luckily, Soos comes with his pick up truck and runs over the Trickster. As they get in the truck and head home, Mable notices that the Trickster is rebuilding itself and is chasing after them. They shake him off the truck but chase into a Summer-ween store. As they recover, they hide as soon as they see the Trickster enter the store. They find an exit but Soos presses a talking skull and attracts the Trickster who eats Soos. Seeing this they grab fake weapons and attack the Trickster and find out that he is made of all the candy that is thrown away by people. As He was about to eat the kids, Soos ate his way through the Trickster’s stomach. In his last breath, the Trickster felt joy that someone liked eating him. A few hours later, the kids were still wanting candy and entered to sneak into the house. The kids enter one of the rooms and see something terrifying and leave the house. As everyone headed back home, Dipper and Mabel made amends and ate some candy. They all celebrate the true meaning of Summer-ween is to be truly scary.
My opinion
This was an amazing episode for Halloween. It had some decent scary moments and some really funny scenes. I showed all the reasons why people love Halloween. I give this episode a 9/10.
