Halloween, the one night where spirits and monsters can be their true selves. One night, children dress up in costumes of monsters or superheroes. Finally, one night where stories and tales of monsters and ghosts are told under a full moon. This year, stories of true terror are being told in a tree house. So let these terrible stories be shared by the Simpson children.
Summary
It begins with Homer in a ghost costume, sneaking around to eat some Halloween candy. Until he overhears Lisa finishing a story that wasn’t scary to Bart, so he grabbed the flashlight and told a new story. The story begins with the Simpsons moving into a new house they got for very cheap. Marge is slightly concerned about it, but right as she finishes speaking, a book flies across the room. The book hits Lisa in the back of the head, then a deep voice tells them to “Get Out”. But Homer says it’s just the house settling. They soon notice more paranormal things happening around the house. Marge is worried and tells everyone that they’re leaving the house. However, Homer tells them to just sleep for the night. But that night, everyone is told by the house that everyone is against them. Everyone is brainwashed into thinking that everyone must die. They gather around to attack each other but Marge is unaffected and snaps everyone out of it. Marge gets angry with the house and yells at it until Lisa discovers something in the basement. Homer calls and is told by the person who sold him the house that an ancient Indian burial ground was under the house. Marge tells the house that they are going to stay and the house is going to have to deal with it. The house asked them to leave for a second to think about it but decided to implode instead.
After that story, Lisa says that it wasn’t scary which Bart then shows her a fake severed finger. But Maggie grabs it and puts it in her mouth. Bart, disgusted, moves on to the next story. The story begins with the Simpsons outside about to enjoy a barbecue until Lisa sees a UFO in the sky. The UFO hovers over them and abducts them one by one and flies off. The Simpsons are scared but the aliens reassure them that they mean no harm. To calm them down, the aliens give them their favorite foods. The Simpsons enjoy the food, but Lisa feels like there is something weird going on. The aliens show them around the ship but they give them more food. Lisa questions why she does see the aliens eat, but they say they are going to have a feast on their home planet. The aliens later weigh the family and get excited at Homer’s excessive weight. Lisa wanders around the ship and notices one of the aliens cooking. Lisa picks up the cook book the alien was using and it said how to cook humans. Lisa rushes to her family to show them but just as she does the aliens are right behind her. But the aliens blew off the space dust that was on the book cover to show it was how to cook for multiple humans. The Aliens feel insulated from this and return them to their house. Lisa says that there were monsters on that ship and it was them. As it was followed by everyone being upset at Lisa.
After the story, Bart pretends that he is getting choked by a hand but no one is paying attention. Lisa is reading some poems from Edgar Allen Poe. Bart says that it’s not scary but she begins to read a poem called The Raven. The story begins with Homer falling asleep on a chair while reading a book. He suddenly wakes up from hearing a tapping on the door but just brushes it off saying it’s just a random visitor. Bart jumps in saying it’s not scary yet but Lisa says the book is setting the mood. Homer then falls back to sleep but is filled with sorrow from his love, Lenore. Homer walks to his chair, but the window curtain touches Homer causing him to feel scared. Soon the sound coming from the curtains, filled him with terror. To calm himself down he repeats that it’s just someone at the door and nothing more. Homer then walks slowly to the door, speaking loudly to the door thinking there was someone on the other side. But when Homer opened the door, there was no one on the other side. Homer closes the door and walks back, but hears the same tapping but much louder. Homer then realizes that it’s coming outside his window. He opens the window and a raven flies in his room. Homer laughs that it all came from a little raven and jokingly asks what the raven says. The raven says “eat my short” until Lisa corrects Bart saying that the raven said nevermore. Homer begins to hallucinate from the grief of his lost love and gets angry at the raven. The raven says nevermore again and Homer tries to attack the raven. The room was left in a mess and Homer sat on the floor, saw the raven gazing at him from the chamber door.
The kids finish telling stories and leave the tree house. They then noticed that Homer was listening to them the whole time and was terrified by the stories. Homer heads to bed but begs Marge to keep the light on. But Marge reassures him that the stories are fake and aren’t real. So Homer falls asleep but wakes to see a raven gazing at him on a branch.
My opinion
This is the best Halloween episode ever made. It has everything for everyone who likes Halloween. It’s not too scary but it still has its horror. It has great references to old movies and books while making them funny and fresh. I can’t say how much I loved this and I hope that others love it too. I give this Halloween episode a 10/10. Happy Halloween.
