What makes a man? Is it his bravery and strength to lead an army? Is it his will and drive to make tough decisions when no one can? Or is it knowing that no matter what he has to do, he is still just a man?
Epic the Musical is a more recently released musical made by Jorge Rivera-Herrans and dozens of different voice actors. This musical has not been actually played on a stage, but has hundreds if not thousands of animatics to act out each song, if not the entire musical as a whole. Listening and watching animatics for Epic the Musical is so life changing and almost every single song is VERY catchy and is easy to listen to.
This musical is about the Trojan War along with Greek Gods and general Greek beliefs.
This Epic the Musical Saga is the very first Saga in the series.
The Horse and the Infant
The song begins with Odysseus telling his men inside the wooden horse to prepare to fight. They will fight to get revenge on the men that were slaughtered by their enemies. As the men think what they fight for, Odysseus thinks of his wife Penelope and his son, Telemachus. Preparing to fight, Odysseus promises that he will make it back home to them. In the mist of battle, Odysseus gets a vision from Zeus of someone who will kill everyone Odysseus knows. Zeus tells him that is the son of an enemy but he is an infant. Zeus tells him if he lets him live he will kill everyone, so he has to kill the infant. Odysseus begs not to but Zeus tells him it’s the only way.
Just a Man
Odysseus sees the infant and thinks of his son and how innocent he is. Odysseus thinks of all the pain he feels when he kills some many. He can’t bear to kill him but he wants to see his son and wife. He understands to be a man, you have to be a monster. With tears and forgiveness, He drops the infant of the tower.
Full Speed Ahead
After their attack, the 600 men make their way back home. They go full speed ahead to the inland but they run out of food. So Odysseus looks for birds to lead them to an inland with food. Odysseus’s friend, Polites tells him that he sees inland with light and there might be people. However, Odysseus doesn’t trust it, so he and Polites searches the area for food.
Open Arms
Polites sees Odysseus is stressed and tells him to relax. Odysseus says he’s fine but Polites tells him that after all they have been through they will be fine. He tells Odysseus to drop his guard and greet the world with open arms. They come across strange creatures and Odysseus stands on guard but Polites tells hims to drop his guard. The creature give them food and Polites tries to tell him that he has to drop his guard and relax. Odysseus notices that the fruit is glowing and is a lotus fruit that controls the mind. Odysseus says that’s what happens when he opens his arm. Polites asked the lotus eater where they can find other food and they say a cave due east. Polites tells Odysseus that release the guilt in his heart that he need to open his arms to the world.
Warrior of the mind
As Odysseus heads back to the ship, The God of wisdom, Athena appears and disapproves of Odysseus opening his heart. Athena tells him that he wants Odysseus to be the ultimate warrior but he is making mistakes. She remembers Odysseus as a kid convincing Athena with his tactics in battle. Odysseus tricks Athena into showing herself and impressing her into making her into his mentor. She tells Odysseus that he has to remember her teachings and to not disappoint her.
In my opinion
“What makes a man?” This is something that can’t be answered by itself. Odysseus shows to be a man you have to be more than you are and who you have to be. The Troy Sags is amazing with its story building and the ways it shows every person can choose how they can be but also what they have to be. I give this Sage a 7.8/10.
