Have you ever wanted to experience justice in the soul? Well, in Undertale Yellow you can experience justice through a character named Clover.
Once you start your first session of Undertale Yellow, you might be confused as to why the game opens up with a story, but this story is the main plot of what is actually happening throughout the entirety of the game. The plot of Undertale Yellow is fairly close to the plot of Undertale, due to the plot still involving the “Monster-Human War”, which is war between the monsters of the Underground, and humanity.
Once you finish the story that opens up Undertale Yellow, you wake up in the Underground, in which Toriel finds you and takes you into the Ruins. There, you do puzzles to advance further into the Ruins, and unfortunately, the last lever you pull sends you plummeting down into the Dark Ruins.
While you begin your exploration of the Dark Ruins, you encounter different types of monsters to fight, and you don’t only have to worry about just monsters; there are also puzzles for you to do while exploring the Dark Ruins to advance further. While exploring the Dark Ruins, you keep encountering a strange hooded figure, this hooded figure is named “Dalv”. Dalv is a vampiric looking human, but is actually a monster in the Underground; he is also the first boss of the game.
After your multiple encounters with Dalv, you finally get near him and this will start a fight. In the fight, you can either decide to spare or kill him; if you spare him, you choose the pacifist route, if you kill him, you choose the genocide route. These routes in the game do impact how the game plays; going pacifist, the game will be easier and will show an easier final boss at the end, but going genocide, the game will be more difficult and the final boss will be different than the pacifist route, and will also be much more difficult to defeat.
Once clearing the Dark Ruins, you leave them, going into a new area, this area is known as Snowdin, a nice looking snowy region of the game with a few puzzles to do, and follow your next boss of Snowdin. Your second boss to fight in Undertale Yellow, is named Martlet, she is an anthropomorphic bird looking monster who serves under the royal guard of the Underground, which means she serves under King Asgore.
While in Snowdin, you can explore and find things to do while looking around, you can buy healing items for when you need them most, mainly used during combat to prevent death. Once nearing the end of your stay in Snowdin, you encounter Martlet, you start a fight with her, but are completely unable to kill her, due to her being a main part of the games lore, so you are forced to spare her and advance onto the next area of the game called the “Dunes”.
You wake up in the Dunes after falling out from a raft that Martlet built; once you wake up, you leave the small cave you had fallen into, while exploring the Dunes, you notice that it’s quite different from the other places you’ve explored, due to it being more difficult to traverse due to a giant fan blowing tons of sand, causing a sandstorm that sets you back if you don’t find a hiding place. After these points, you find Martlet again, she travels with you for a bit before you reach a small town that is run by the Feisty Four (Members include: Ed, Moray, Ace, & Mooch), (technically 5 due to their leader “North Star” being excluded); this town is called the “Wild East”.
While being in the Wild East, North Star had locked up Martlet because she serves the Royal Guard, since North Star hates the Royal Guard; but after this, he forces you to do missions with him after making you the sheriff of the Wild East, but this causes a huge problem between him and his friends, after doing all the mission, North Star’s friends snap, and attack you, causing a 1 v 4 fight, this fight is a bit difficult, due to multiple attacks going your way, but eventually, North Star returns and snaps at his friends, who snap back, causing a huge argument, this causes his friends to reveal his actual name “Starlo”, after this, the Feisty Four leave, causing Starlo to be alone, he places the blame on you because it all happened after you show up, so then he starts his attack on you, his attacks are fairly simple to avoid, and once again, you have the option to kill or spare, further going on either pacifist or genocide.
After attacking Starlo, he flees (if pacifist route is chosen), most likely to the Steamworks, this place is an ancient factory that used to be the main power source of the entire Underground, but unfortunately it failed, and became overtaken by robots who stay there, the robots here can be difficult to fight, depending on your skill of using the 6 shooter revolver, and total hp, these both impact how well you can kill or spare certain robots.
Once again, you have to solve puzzles while avoiding steam that is capable of doing damage towards the player, turning off a lever will completely deactivate the steam, and you are able to roam around that area freely with the occasional fights of other robots. Once you make it to the halfway point, you enter a giant building, this building has a robot named “Axis”, he chases you down, trying to capture you since you’re human, there is a miniboss (The Guardener) you have to fight, but his attacks are fairly simple. After everything, you fight Axis, he is fairly difficult if you don’t know how to avoid his difficult and high damage dealing attacks. Once you finish the fight against Axis, you move onto the next region of the game and this is called the “Hotland”.
You now are the Hotland, this is the second to last region of the entire game, you explore the Hotland with either Martlet or Ceroba, this all depends on which path you chose, if you explore with Martlet, congrats, you chose genocide route, if you explore with Ceroba, you have been on pacifist route. While you explore the Hotland, you eventually have to do puzzles and puzzles on conveyer belts, which aren’t too difficult to do. Eventually, you continue to explore different parts of the Hotland, there isn’t much happening between this part of the game, except defeating normal enemies you come across everywhere.
BOOM! You now know what route you chose! You meet a character named Alphys, her context will all depend on what path you took, in pacifist route, she will reveal the truth to you, but in the genocide route, its more complicated, as she will completely avoid you the entire game due to you killing everything you come across. Now, you enter the CORE, the CORE is an advanced power plant that will lead you to a new part of the game called “New Home”.
New Home, the final chapter of Undertale Yellow, this is where you will be fighting your final battle against Ceroba with your ally Martlet in the genocide route, but in the pacifist route, you and Martlet fight against both Ceroba and Starlo, Ceroba will die in both routes no matter what happens, but in the pacifist route, when Ceroba dies, Starlo will wake up and notice that Ceroba’s presence is no longer with him.
Afterwards, this ends the game, but will leave both Starlo and Martlet in pain, Starlo will be sad, while Martlet is completely heartbroken and alone because of it. The monsters are glad that it’s finally over by the death of Ceroba and that Clover will finally leave the Underground once and for all…
