CCHS Spotlight – Kayla Overall and The Mula Collection

Olivia Kucsik

Kayla Overall, sophomore at Capital City is the owner of The Mula Collection. This is the first submission in this week’s spotlight on student owned businesses.

How did you the Mula Collection get started?

“It’s a funny story actually. Me and my friend were at the mall looking at necklaces and the price was unbelievably high. So I started to sell my own and expanded from there.”

What service(s) or product(s) do you offer/manufacture?

“I do sell jewelry but I also produce my lip glosses, mink eyelashes, body scrubs and facial oils.”

What was your mission at the outset?

“My mission then and now not just being financially stable for myself and my family, but I want girls to use my products and think, ‘yeah, my face is breaking out, I know exactly where I want to go.’ I want to be that girl.”

How does that motivate you?

“It lets me know that I am doing something right. It pushes me to keep wanting to expand my company when I see that people really love the products I make.”

How do you generate new ideas?

“I am really focusing on branding right now. I want my name on everything. I thought I might even start a cosmetic line, since I am in beauty and body care.”

To what do you attribute your success?

“It is more what I want to that yearning for success, although, what I attribute is being that provider in my family.”

How do you intend to keep that success going on a long term scale?

“Listening to my customers and new ideas being brought to me…It’s either go big or go home.”
