Jesse Brown, English

How long have you been teaching?

  • “ This would be my third year of teaching”

How has CC compared to your other teaching experiences?

  • “So I used to work at a more rural school, so it’s definitely bigger, and nicer, as far as like newer and stuff. I really like the family sort of comradery that I have with a lot of fellow teachers and I think that this is a pretty cool community to be a part of.”

What was your first impression of CC?

  • “I thought it was a spaceship. I thought it was very fancy, like if the world was going to end like this just come out of the ground and save us all. I thought it was beautiful, like a sight to behold.”

What do you think of CC now that you’ve been here a year?

  • “I really like the kids here, the kids are really cool, coworkers are really cool. I just think this is a really good place to go to high school from my perspective, and as an ex high schooler and high school teacher now….We’re very fortunate to have a place like this.”

How long have you been teaching?

  • “This is my third year.”

How has CC compared to your other teaching experiences?

  • “I feel like the environment’s more welcoming here. From my experience, the teachers are a lot more happy, the students are a lot more happy-they’ve got more grit. They’re willing to do the work and things like that. It just makes everything kind of work together.”

What was your first impression of CC?

  • “Well I’ve always taught at smaller schools, so coming from a school that has 400 students to a school with 1400 students was a culture shock…and I was a little nervous but I like it here a lot now.”

What do you think of CC now that you’ve been here a year?

  • “We’re a newer school, so I’m excited to see the growth. I feel like we’re at a good spot right now…with our admin and the teachers that we have here it’s only going to get better.

Veronica Leeson, Science

How long have you been teaching?

  • “This is my 5th year teaching High School.”

How has CC compared to your other teaching experiences?

  • “So I taught at JCHS for 4 years and it’s really hard to compare because they are two very different schools, and I’ve taught different classes everywhere. I would say overall here the teachers are very friendly and they’re really good at acknowledging you and not letting you kind of hide behind the cracks.”

What was your first impression of CC?

  • “My first impression was that the building is beautiful and I was overwhelmed because it’s kind of loud.”

What do you think of CC now that you’ve been here a year.?

  • “I’ve really grown to appreciate the staff here. I am coming back next year which at the beginning of the year I did not plan on doing at all. I kind of got won over by the people who work here. I’m looking forward to a fresh start and a year where it was my choice to be here.”

Conner Cotton, Science

How long have you been teaching?

  • 1 year

What led you to want to teach?

  • “I was in college and I didn’t like what I was doing so I thought I should go see what a classroom looks like so I shadowed a teacher and was like “yeah this is what I’m going to do for the rest of my life.”

What was your first impression of CC?

  • “So I went to a small school, so my first thought was ‘oh my god this is so big, there’s going to be a lot of students, I’m not going to know everybody,’ but even watching the seniors leave, I realize I’m getting to know the students body a lot better than I thought I was going to. I know students even outside of the classes that I’ve taught.”

Do you have any big plans for your future in teaching?

  • “I will literally be right here next year, I’ve signed a contract, I’m sponsoring the NHS next year…all of the big plans.”
