Authentic Mexican Food
March 23, 2023
Mexican food is a fan favorite to many people, not just those in the Hispanic community. With a wide variety of choices, it’s almost impossible to choose what to eat. If you ever want a taste of Mexico, I recommend these delicious dishes.
Here are my favorites!
- Chilaquiles
This traditional Mexican dish features lightly fried corn tortillas cut into quarters and topped with green or red salsa, the red salsa being spicier. Adding on to that people also put scrambled or fried eggs, cheese and sour cream on top. Chilaquiles are often served with frijoles (refried beans).
- Pozole
Made from hominy corn with plenty of herbs and spices, this dish is traditionally stewed for hours, often overnight. Once it’s ready to serve, lettuce, radish, onion, lime and chilli are sprinkled on top. For more flavor many people add meat like chicken or pork. Pozole is a very famous dish perfect for family dinners or parties.
- Elote
The Mexican name for corn on the cob, in Mexico it’s sold on nearly every street corner. The corn is traditionally boiled and served either on a stick or in cups, the kernels being cut off the cob. Toppings include salt, chili powder, lime, butter, cheese, mayonnaise and sour cream. There is never not a moment for some elote.
- Mole
Mole is a dish that can be a hit or miss to many people. It consists of a rich sauce made with a variety of chilli peppers all requiring constant stirring over a long period of time. The most popular and most known mole is mole poblano, a rusty red sauce typically served over turkey or chicken.
- Tamales
Tamales are so delicious you truly can never get tired of them because you can make them in so many different ways. Tamales are pockets of corn dough stuffed with either a sweet or savory filling, wrapped in banana leaves or corn husks, then steamed. Fillings vary from meats and cheeses to fruits, vegetables, or chillies. Just remember to remove the wrapping before eating.
Out of all these delicious dishes, which one would you pick?
