Kingdom Hearts is a game that ended up revolutionizing how JRPGS would be, and evolved to be one of the most beloved RPGs from Square Enix. From its elaborate storyline to how it plays, the Kingdom Hearts franchise has managed to encapsulate having fun in the most dire situations, as well as displaying how you as a character grow and mature into your abilities. We will be talking about each game in the series with these reviews
The main protagonist, aptly named Sora due to his character being so floaty, is chosen by the Keyblade to dispel the heartless, and bring light to each of the realms he travels to, despite knowing nothing about them. This allows for the games level and skill making system to completely show how you not only grow as the player to learn how to play the game, but also how Sora grows in order to help his friends and see them succeed, as well as how he grows to become a keyblade master.
The gameplay, although simple on the surface, is complex when you get into it. The game immediately tells you how to fight, but leaves out things that you will need to learn for yourself, such as how keychains will affect your stats, or how your action button will sometimes change your attacks on top of adding spells to your combo. Each of these hidden mechanics is genius, and once again makes you feel proud of yourself for figuring it out, while also showing you how Sora is growing as a keyblade wielder.
Overall, with the combined efforts of the story and gameplay, as well as the replay factors for what you earn if you play even further past the main story, Kingdom Hearts ends up creating a fun, dramatic tale that takes you along with Sora into his worlds, and make sure that you have fun, instead of just leaving you into the darkness, making it a great game overall.
