Would you rather live a life of excitement and thrills or a life of contentment and peace? This is the question that Fantastic Mr. Fox tackles when he went from a former chicken thief, to a husband, father, and newspaper columnist. Mr. Fox gets sick of living in a low-income area and decides to move to a new burrow inside a tree that overlooks the 3 biggest farms in the area. When Mr. Fox sees the house, he immediately gets the idea to rob the 3 farms. With this task, Mr.Fox risks everything if he gets caught. Of course, Mr. Fox being the impulsive person he is, instantly buys the home and prepares to rob the farms.
After the first two heists go off without any major issues, he heads to the third company run by Franklin Bean. Franklin Bean is the owner of the largest cider farms in the valley and considered to be the world’s scariest man. At first, Mr. Fox sees this heist just as the other two, until he enters the cider cellar and sees Rat, who is an old thief rival of Mr. Fox who has now been hired as a security guard by Franklin Bean himself! After a strenuous fight against Rat, Mr. Fox manages to escape narrowly. However, these crimes did not go unnoticed by Mr. Bean and the other 2 farmers (Boggis and Bunce). They decide to unite their forces to capture Mr.Fox by digging up his burrow, leaving him nowhere to hide.
This is when the realization kicks in for Mr. Fox. The exciting and fun times might cost him his family, friends, and his entire life. At this moment, Mr. Fox shows a side of him that was not seen throughout the entire movie. He had worry, fear, and he thought about his actions. He no longer felt that the wild was calling him, he finally saw the value of everything around him. These genuine emotions were enough to change his family and friends opinions of him. Nobody saw him as a joker, criminal, or chicken thief anymore, they thought of him as a leader and someone to look up to. This reassurance allowed Mr. Fox to come up with an idea on how to get away safely. They dug far away from the tree and circled around the farmers, allowing them to rob all 3 farmers without ever Being seen, due to the farmers being at the tree attempting to dig up Mr. Fox. This leads to a happy ending for Mr. Fox after they all find new homes in the sewers under a grocery store.
At the start of the movie, Mr. Fox is a person who would always choose excitement over contentment. Although, by the end, he realizes that he can no longer make a bad decision without realizing that his actions affect others. This is why I believe that Mr. Fox shows that sometimes the simple things are what matter most and excitement isn’t worth losing the most important things in your life.
