In this installment of my opinion on the Taco Bell menu, I will be reviewing the various burritos they offer. As most of us know, a burrito is made from assorted fillings wrapped in a flour tortilla. Taco Bell has quite a few of these, each with their own strengths and weaknesses.
All Burritos
Because of the simplicity of the burrito, all of them can be put under the same category.
Beef Supreme Burrito
This burrito will be out baseline for the rest of the items going forward. Inside, it contains beans, beef, red sauce, onions, and lettuce. Almost anyone can enjoy a good burrito made this way, and it can be easily modified to fit their tastes. Since we are using this item as the bar, it will have a 5/10 rating.
Beefy 5 Layer Burrito
When I first had this burrito, I did not enjoy it. There is way too much cheese, and coupled with the amount of beans makes the mouthfeel somewhat uncomfortable and mushy. I will say that I can see how some enjoy it. The point of this burrito is to be cheesy and have plenty of filling. It is my sole opinion that this burrito is lower in quality than the baseline burrito, so I will give it a 4/10.
Cheesy Double Beef Burrito
On the other end of the spectrum of cheesy burritos, I think the cheesy double beef burrito is great. In this burrito, crunchy fiesta strips were added, which neutralizes my main issue with the beefy 5 layer burrito. The flavor and texture are greatly improved when compared to the regular supreme burrito, though, it’s lacking some much needed vegetation. I give this item a 6/10.
Chicken Enchilada Burrito
Similarly to the beefy 5 layer burrito, I didn’t like this one as much as I thought I would. When I was ordering it, I expected the familiar taste of a chicken enchilada, but that isn’t exactly what I got. I don’t really know what I was expecting from a fast food burrito. it just tastes low quality, and if I could give this burrito one word, I would call it “underwhelming”. 4.5/10
Bean Burrito
The streak of sad burritos continues. There is a distinct lack of sustenance, trading that off for it’s ludicrously low cost. I am not rating things on how economic they are, however. I am rating these based on taste and texture. It’s just kind of there on the menu. I don’t think I know any person that would choose this burrito over any others. 3/10
Chili Cheese Burrito
This burrito is just in the middle of the road. It’s okay for all of it’s purposes, but it falls short of what I’d like it to be. To make a long story short, chili belongs in a bowl. 4/10
Cantina Chicken Burrito
This burrito is the pinnacle of all burritos on this list. It is my personal favorite burrito out of everything. Perhaps, it is my favorite item altogether. The combination of vegetables, sauces, and slow roasted chicken cannot be beaten. In every way I can think of, it is perfect. 10/10
Cheesy Bean and Rice Burrito
This item is just okay. I personally wouldn’t choose this burrito. My reason being, there just isn’t anything going for it. It’s a quite normal burrito that feels more like filler on the menu. The beans are smooth and the rice can be iffy at times when paired with it. 4/10
Grilled Cheese Burrito
My second favorite burrito on the menu. The grilled cheese burrito is a specialty burrito, but the bump in price is well worth it in my opinion. It’s cheesy, it’s delicious, and it’s just great. 9/10
