The first day I came here, it felt like a movie, and I will never forget that day. Even though there are no lockers or it’s not the most “typical” American school, it still feels so unreal! It’s so big here and there are all kinds of sports, big fields, and so much more.
Something that was quite shocking to me was the amount of choices of hot foods for lunch! So many choices! That being said, there’s only 20 minutes to eat.. that’s not enough time!
The way breaks work in the school are also a lot different compared to what I’m used to in Belgium. You guys don’t get play time which is upsetting. I always loved play time, as it was when I normally talked with my friends, or socialized in general. I normally don’t like doing things outside of school but going to games and doing sports here made me realize that it can be fun!
I did think driving on a yellow bus would be a little more fun, but it’s not as great as I had thought…
I also never knew that you guys use a different sound to pronounce the sound “th”and now I finally know how to say “thank you” without sounding like a child.
Even after settling in, everything still feels like I’m playing in a movie, especially at the assemblies. It feels so unreal. Americans are also so sweet and I am so thankful for all the people I have met. I’m still meeting new people all the time and experiencing so much!
I feel like everyone should do an exchange because it feels so unreal. You get to learn a lot and meet new people! It is really worth it and if you are thinking about it, JUST DO IT! Taking that jump and trying something crazy and new is life changing and can make for great stories to tell your friends and family!
