Almost, Maine and expectations of Almost, Maine.
I asked what the play was about and Anusha one of the directors said,
“Almost, Maine is a Vignette show where it focuses on love stories and heart breaks of certain people in the town of Almost, Maine.”
I continued to ask about some expectations we will see from this show. Payton and Anusha answered with,
” Lots of love, heartbreak, depictions of life; You can see everyday life on stage. Queer love, divorce, friends to lovers, and second chance romance in a way.”
Behind the scenes of Almost, Maine.
I asked about their experiences directing this show. All of the directors, Anusha, Madison, Alexis, and Payton responded,
Payton “It’s challenging”
Madison “I see what Mrs. Lecure gose through and there is four of us.”
Alexis want on and said, “It’s even harder because its our cast but its also our friends and peers.”
Anusha “I think it’s difficault because we have never done something like this before, but its also a fun way to learn as we go.”
Madison “I feel like when we see our cast on stage, it will be very rewarding for us. We put in this work and we put on this show.”
I asked Tech-wise how was the behind-the-scenes experience like, Everyone answered.
Anusha said that she has stage-managed before, so she has a little bit of experience. She has learned new things though, “I have never learned how to operate it myself and learned how to work the whole lighting system. I learned how to work the sound system.”
Madison went on and said that everyone has dabbled in Tech. before, but this show has broadened their experience. Payton said that she would spend some extra time with Mrs. Lecure. “After I got out of work I came here and we spent time together.”
After that, they talked about the design process. They said, “We got to block scenes, set design, costumes, and lighting.” They had lots of creative freedom.
I concluded with, why did they decide to be directors of this show?
Payton said, “We love each other and spent time with each other.”
Anusha added on and said that they are officers of the theater program so this was a good way to have more leadership. Payton added that directing is fun and you can be a cast member. You can sit in the audience, and you get to work hard. She said, “Being on the other side of things and the other end of the table. Getting to cast, and getting to worry about costumes and props; It was very fun to just, come up with a show and be rewarded with the outcome. It was a great opportunity for all of us and learn more about theater.”
They mentioned the fact that the President of Theater will be graduating and that they can spend more time this way with Payton before that day comes.
