Decisions. Something everyone has to make for every situation. You can choose to be peaceful or wrathful. You can choose to talk it out or finish it up front. Everyone is stuck with decisions, however there is always a price to pay no matter what.
This Epic the Musical Saga is the second saga in the series.
Polyphemus
After entering the cave, Odysseus and his crew see that the cave is full of food and sheep. Odysseus’s second in command, Eurylochus is proud to see that the whole crew will have enough to eat. However, Odysseus doesn’t trust why the lotus-eaters would tell them about the cave and not eat the food. Out of nowhere a cyclops appears behind them and asks how they are. As Odysseus tries to tell him who they are, the cyclops sees that they killed his favorite sheep. The cyclops want to kill them to make them equal to killing his sheep. Odysseus says that they never meant to cause any harm and made a trade with his finest wine. The cyclops drinks the wine, thanks him, and asks Odysseus for his name. But Odysseus says his name is Nobody and the cyclops says that he will be the final man to die.
Survive
The cyclops begins to attack and Odysseus commands his men to prepare to protect the men at sea and to stop the cyclops. Odysseus begins the assault and thinks about the 600 men he has to protect. The rest of the men follow up the attack and surround the cyclops. They attack his heels and keep their distance. But, in the mist of battle, Polites gets hit and dies on the battlefield. Odysseus is in shock and can’t command the rest of his men. The cyclops bring out a club and slaughter most of the men. Before the cyclops could hurt more of them, he passes out on the ground.
Remember Them
Odysseus tells the men that they have to move now. Odysseus secretly puts some of the lotus in the wine before handing it to the cyclops. Eurylochus asks what they do with their fallen friend and Odysseus tells them to remember them. He tells his men to sharpen the club and turn it into a spear. To get the cyclops out of the way, they stab the spear into the cyclops’ eye. The cyclops screams in pain and the men scatter. But as the cyclops scream, more cyclopes come out of darkness asking who hurt the cyclops. But the cyclops said Nobody and the cyclopes told him to be silent. Odysseus tells the men to grab the sheep but Athena appears and tells him to kill him. However, Odysseus tells her no and that mercy is the answer. He tells the cyclops to remember who did this to him against Athena’s advice. Odysseus reveals his name to the cyclops and the cyclops smile as he returns to the cave.
My Goodbye
Athena appears again and is disappointed with Odysseus actions. She told Odysseus that she went wrong training him and says she’s leaving him to teach him his place. But Odysseus calls Athena selfish, prideful, and vain because every time he kills, he leaves with pain. Odysseus saw Athena as a friend but doesn’t want her to control how he acts. Athena says her effort was wasted but Odysseus says that she spent all her effort on him because she was alone. Athena tells Odysseus goodbye and leaves his head forever.
In my opinion:
This Sage was one of my favorite and really show the type of man Odysseus is. Odysseus makes his decisions based on wisdom or mercy. He doesn’t kill unless he sees it as his only option. I give this Saga a 7.4/10
