Students with Jobs: Owen Stieferman

Jacob Patterson, Contributing Author (Capsule Yearbook)

In high school one of the things a lot of students look forward to is getting a job. At the age of 15 a teenager can get a workers permit and start their working career. Let’s take a look at one student, junior Owen Stieferman and his job as a Courtesy Clerk at Hy-Vee.

Q: Where do you work and how long have you worked there?
A: “I have worked at Hy-Vee for about a year and a half.”

Q: What is your favorite part of your job and why?
A: “I like getting the carts because it’s easy and I get to listen to music. I also like to stock things, but mostly only big things like water and other drinks.”

Q: If you didn’t work where you currently do where do you think you would work and why?
A: “I would work at Little Caesars on Missouri Boulevard, so I could work with my boy ‘J-Bear’.”

Q: Do you find it difficult to have a job and be in high school and why?
A: “No, because I just work on the weekends, so it doesn’t really conflict with my regular schedule.”

Q: Do you want to do this career long term? Example: Customer Service
A: “No, I do not want to do customer service long term. I’m thinking of doing athletic training when I’m older.”

Q: When you were younger did you want to work at a job like this?
A: “I didn’t think I would work at Hy-Vee. It’s not that I didn’t want to work there, it was more so that I turned sixteen and needed a job, so I decided to work at Hy-Vee because it was open.”

Q: What is something you think you do well at your job?
A: “I bag peoples groceries very well, I please the customers with my hard work.”
