What is Hispanic Heritage Month?

National Hispanic Heritage Month from September 15 to October 15, celebrating the histories, cultures, and contributions of American citizens whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean, and Central and South America.

Why do we celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month?

It is a time to recognize and celebrate the many contributions, diverse cultures, and extensive histories of the American Latino community

Why is Hispanic heritage month split between September and October?

September 15 was chosen as the starting point for Hispanic Heritage Month because it is the anniversary of the Cry of Dolores or “Grito de Dolores,” according to Carlos Olave, head of the Hispanic Reading Room at the Library of Congress.
