I am a member of CCHS Esports. We are athletes of a different kind, so don’t expect to find us in a packed gym or football field. Rather, we group up in the highest point of the school, all above the others. We game, and we game, with sessions more engaging than the last. In the near future, the icing on the cake, the tournament, is soon to come. I am Xavier Adams, and this is my experience in Esports.
In Esports, any game is allowed- just as long as it isn’t too over-the-top. As you may be able to tell from my other stories, I am a gamer in all sense of the word– you may find us playing Minecraft, Smash Bros., or a whole bunch in between. After all, not just competitive games are allowed.
On the field, the team calls me “Blockhead”. Weird, right? While this is a bit on-the-nose of course, they have some truth– it reflects my smash main. Right when they least expect it…here drops Steve. BOOM! TNT trap, Magma Block; spamming side-B. Heh, haters gonna hate amirite? *Ahem.* Pardon my jargon.
And yes, you can’t have Esports without the rest of the crew. You got Jarred, the builder of the group who’s always expanding base, there’s our resources guy, Oliver, and then Jonah and Graysen, who give the battlefield a little bit of spice. You can’t forget the presidents, Jayanna and Landon, and the teachers too; Mr. Butler, Mrs. Scheiderer, and Ms. Turner! We’re not just a list of names, but much more; we’re a well-oiled machine.
As of now, Esports has wrapped up, but there are many bright lights and opportunities for the future. To me, the state qualifiers, the first tournament, is looming. I can feel it, and the rest of the group is revving up as well. With our group chemistry, I’m predicting something deep. We’re showing up not just to win, but to become legends.
If you’ve ever felt like the school’s highest points are your speed, come and look for us next to the stairs– we won’t be far. Whether you’re a competitive gamer or just looking for a casual session, there is always a controller waiting for you. Esports isn’t just a club, it’s more; it’s next-level gaming.
