This Wednesday Australian kids under the age of 16 will no longer have access to any social media platforms on their devices. This was enforced by their Prime Minister Anthony Albanses who states “We’ve said very clearly that this won’t be perfect… but it’s the right thing to do for society to express its views, its judgment, about what is appropriate,”
This phone restriction was made to help protect children against addictive sites, online predators and bullies. The most popular apps that are banned are Tiktok, Instagram, Snap chat, Twitch, and Twitter. These are just some examples.
Some parents love this for their children because it limits distractions academically and ends social media’s negative influences. On the other hand many people believe this will limit kids’ connection to others, will cause isolation and lack of self expression. Two five teen year old already brought up legal change to the highest court.
What do you think about this new law?
