As a book nerd myself, I was curious as to what types of books other members of Capital City like to read. I knew that I would have to start asking people if they wanted to be interviewed and if they had a favorite book, but I also knew I had to ask questions that could lead toward that answer. So to start out, I interviewed an anonymous member of our book club here at school;

Are you a pretty big reader?

A: Yeah, sometimes I´ll get in the mood to read for fun.

What are some of your favorite genres to read?

A: I really really like mystery, romance, and realistic fiction.

Who are some of your favorite authors?

A: Definitely Karen M. McManus. She writes a lot of mystery.

Would you recommend her work to other people?

A: One hundred percent.

Is there an author who has helped you through some hard times, with their writing? If so how was their writing helpful?

A: Yes there is an author, I can’t think of their name at the moment. Umm, I’m not really sure how to explain it, it was a realistic fiction book and I guess it just felt nice to not be myself for a while.

If you had to pick just one book to read for the rest of your life, what would it be?

A: I don’t think there could ever be just one book for anybody but, if I absolutely had to choose one I would say, One of us is Lying by Karen M. McManus.

As I was interviewing our book club member, I started to see some of my own responses in theirs. It was a really cool revelation. My next interview was with Ms. Abby Coon, a senior in the band. I asked her the very same questions, but her responses were very different.

Are you a pretty big reader?

AC: I used to only read for school, but over the summer I became a bigger fan of reading.

What are some of your favorite genres to read?

AC: I like to read thrillers and romance books. I think the book is even better when the two are put together.

Me: Who are some of your favorite authors?

AC: Colleen Hoover.

Would you recommend her work to other people?

AC: Yeah, her books are really cool.

Is there an author who has helped you through some hard times, with their writing? If so how was their writing helpful?

AC: I wouldn’t say there was an author that helped me through their writing, but when I would get upset or need a break I would just read some of Colleen Hoover’s books over the summer.

If you had to pick just one book to read for the rest of your life, what would it be?

AC: Verity or Out of my Mind

I guess that just goes to show that different life experiences shape what you’re interested in. Do you like to read books or just informational pieces? If I had asked you these questions would your responses have been similar or completely different?
