Included in this Paper is an interview with Speech and Debate coach Mr.Mallin.

What is the purpose of Speech and Debate?

Speech and Debate is a competitive activity that involves public speaking, debate, and competitive theatre. It allows students to become masters in public speaking, which is a great skill they will use for the rest of their lives, while also growing skills like reading comprehension and information processing. The purpose of speech and debate is to learn, grow, bond with teammates, and have fun.

What are the activities the club participates in?

The club participates in a variety of activities, including different types of one on one and two on two competitive debates, as well as competitive public speaking where speakers are ranked by a judge. There are also multiple competitive theatre events.

What inspired you to create/coach the club?

I competed in speech and debate in high school, and my coaches provided me with opportunities in the activity that opened many doors in my life after high school. I have volunteered or coached ever since because I get to give back and provide our students with some of those same opportunities.

Why should students join?

The team is a family, the activity is competitive but fun, and we offer so many different types of speech, debate, and theatre events that everyone can always find an activity they enjoy. Additionally, students gain public speaking experience that put them at a huge advantage in life after high school.
