It’s the final matchday of the Champions League league phase. The most exciting match of the day is at 2:00 PM, Benfica Vs Real Madrid. If Real Madrid win they automatically qualify for the round of 16, but if they lose, they have to go through the playoffs. Meanwhile, on the other side, Benfica are outside the top 24 and need this win to qualify for the playoffs, or they’re eliminated.
The game starts off with lots of fouls, and both teams are shown a yellow card. Gianluca Prestianni gets fouled, and the referee says penalty, but VAR cancels the call. In the 30’ minute Kylian Mbappe scores! 6 minutes later Andreas Schjelderup ties the game! The referee adds 4 minutes of additional time. Raul Asencio bad challenge in the box leads to a penalty in favor of Benfica. Scored by Vangelis Pavlidis right before the end of the half! The second half whistle is blown! Andreas Schjelderup scored in the 54’ minute. Real Madrid holds more of the ball but lacks shots. Both teams are trying their best to score. Real Madrid have fallen out of the top 8 and need to score to get back in the top 8. Benfica is winning, but they need one more goal to qualify for the playoffs; they are behind by goal difference.
The 90 minutes are over, and the referee adds 5 minutes of additional time. Real Madrid realizes that all they need is not to concede any more goals, and they can get back in the top 8. Raul Asencio and Rodrygo both get reds, and Real Madrid is down to 9 men vs Benfica’s 11. It’s the last kick of the game, and Benfica gets a free kick in Real Madrid’s half. Benfica’s goalkeeper comes out to make an even bigger disadvantage to Madrid’s 9 men. Fredrik Aursnes crosses and it’s scored by the goalkeeper!
