Another week only means more games for Capital City basketball. And were these some nail biters. Capital City hosts both games this week trying to go into the weekend winners so they can enjoy the snow from the upcoming winter storms.

On Monday January 19th at 5 Capital City and Lutheran St. Charles tipped off. The St. Charles Cougars came into the game with a 5-5 record hoping to get their team a winning record. But what they didn’t expect was Grady Payton to drop a record breaking 45 points on them. Grady was the clear MVP dropping deep threes and driving through the paint just destroying their defense. Grady’s crazy performance was the key factor to the Cavs win over the Cougars with the final score on 73-66.

The Cavs next game was on Thursday January 22nd vs the Father Tolton Trailblazers. This game came down to the wire going into double overtime! This game was back and forth the whole time with Capital City on top for the majority of the game. But the Trailblazers were determined to win and never gave the Cavs a huge lead. The game ended up with a game winning layup by the Trailblazers to get them to a 3-12 record.

The Cavs enter the weekend with a 8-9 record. Their game on Saturday January 24th got cancelled due to the huge snow storm expected to hit Jefferson City. Their next game will be on January 27th against the Southern Boone Eagles. The game will be held at Southern Boone and will start at 7:30. Stay safe this weekend and make sure you bring some Cavs energy to the Eagles court!

Makai Petty, a Senior at Capital City High School, is involved in the school’s baseball team. In his free time he likes to go and play golf with his fellow CCHS baseball teammates. Though he may play baseball and golf in his free time his true passion is working with nature, Makai plans on working for NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration). Makai gets his love of nature from his grandfather who used to take him to different wildlife parks and would teach him about different animals and plant life. Makai is not only interested in wildlife, he is also interested in traveling the world. He is somewhat a well traveled person, going to Mexico six times and to the Dominican 3 times. But Makai can’t stay away from his love of wildlife; he begs his family to take snorkeling trips to go look at coral reefs to look at all the life below the water. Makai doesn’t only enjoy wildlife, he also has a strong passion for music. His family and teammates are always in shock when he knows every single word for word that they may play at family gatherings or at baseball games. Makai’s favorite artist is Kanye West, his favorite song being “Through the wire”. Makai considers himself a remotely accomplished person, from how much he has traveled and experienced. Makai’s advice for other students is, “Make memories, you only live once. You might as well make the most of it.
