Friday, January 30th Capital City’s boys basketball faced their best opponent yet. Fort Zumwalt South, one of the best teams in the state of Missouri with a top 30 ranking. Capital City was more than prepared for this game, studying film, having extra practices. With the Student section packed the game tipped off right at 7.

Capital City started the game off strong scoring first, but Fort Zumwalt struck back fast with a layup of their own. It was a tough defensive game with both teams locking each other up not letting anyone drive into the paint. Both teams were struggling, going back and forth not letting one or the other get a real lead. As the game went into half the score was 17-14 Capital City.

As the teams came out ready for a second half the tough game continued. Both teams were still giving strong defense but both teams’ offenses were rolling around. With deep threes, and strong drives into the paint both teams were on a hot streak. With the game’s final seconds on the clock a pass to number 3 Dakota Pitts for a game winning 3 with 2.2 seconds on the clock. Fort Zumwalt South had one more chance to score but ruined the opportunity when they threw it out of bounds and flopped allowing Capital City to increase the score with free throws. The Final to the game was 47-43 Capital City to improve their record to 10-9.

Capital City’s next game is on February 7th against Bowling Green at Helias High School. Make sure you come out to rally and cheer for the Cavs. Wear your blue and show up and show out to help your Capital City Cavs.

Makai Petty, a Senior at Capital City High School, is involved in the school’s baseball team. In his free time he likes to go and play golf with his fellow CCHS baseball teammates. Though he may play baseball and golf in his free time his true passion is working with nature, Makai plans on working for NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration). Makai gets his love of nature from his grandfather who used to take him to different wildlife parks and would teach him about different animals and plant life. Makai is not only interested in wildlife, he is also interested in traveling the world. He is somewhat a well traveled person, going to Mexico six times and to the Dominican 3 times. But Makai can’t stay away from his love of wildlife; he begs his family to take snorkeling trips to go look at coral reefs to look at all the life below the water. Makai doesn’t only enjoy wildlife, he also has a strong passion for music. His family and teammates are always in shock when he knows every single word for word that they may play at family gatherings or at baseball games. Makai’s favorite artist is Kanye West, his favorite song being “Through the wire”. Makai considers himself a remotely accomplished person, from how much he has traveled and experienced. Makai’s advice for other students is, “Make memories, you only live once. You might as well make the most of it.
